TIME. What is time, how can we describe it? It gives a point of reference, the position of planets, stars, and the sun. We might not fully understand the nature of time, but we certainly know how to measure it. Inventors and scientist have spent centuries developing new ways to efficiently measure time. It was recently discovered that Louis Moinet was the real inventor and creator of the first chronograph, rather than Rieussec. Moinet created the first ever counter of time in 1816, a stopwatch-style pocket watch. A device so ahead of its time it had a reset function pusher in addition to the start and stop pusher.
Given this change in time-chronograph history today's Louis Moinet brand and atelier have decided to further pay homage to the name "Louis Moinet" by values that represent him: art, creativity, watch making, and astronomy. In celebration of the bicentenary of the chronograph (1816-2016) and the Atelier’s tenth anniversary, Louis Moinet is launching the new Memoris timepiece. Memoris is the first chronograph-watch in history. We all know Louis Moinet as a creative and technologicly innovative brand with a philosophy of limited edition mechanical art. Memoris is not the exception to this tradition, but a highlight. To be able to make possible the integration of both the watch and the chronograph Moinet came up with an entirely new concept making the chronograph the central component of the watch, a genuinely unique and innovative creation.
Memoris gives us a new Energy-Plus winding system, and uses a monopusher chronograph featuring a column wheel with a traditional clutch. This provides an uber efficient mechanism in which the hands don't make sudden stops but keep a constant movement, in which it completely avoids the "tic, tic" sound. Now, that is music to my ears. In terms of the case, it is composed of 52 pieces, it is inspired by traditional horology, and it features an exclusive use of synthetic gemstones. Memoris is available in 18K pink gold, 18K white gold rhodium-plated mainplate and 18K white gold-blued mainplate. There are only three limited editions of just 60 pieces each. Memoris is an innovate design that writes and changes history, embodying the essence of true commemoration. It binds Louis Moinet's heritage with the creative vision of the Ateliers.
Once again there is new history or better yet a new future by Louis Moinet.
‘Memoris’ has been nominated for this year's very prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie of Geneva.
